I can't tell you how excited I am to be destroying our old "periwinkle blue kitchen" for a brand new one. Today was the first day of our construction....Demolition Day! Francisco (our contractor) and crew came this morning and started ripping everything out of the walls. We have, well, I guess we had, a wall separating the kitchen from the dining room that is now gone. I am very excited about that wall being gone because it will now allow us to have a bigger kitchen plus a room that we can use. It was to be our dining room/junk room that we never used. We now plan on using that space as an eating/living area.
Last night, when the workers were done for the day, Alex and I went back there to look at everything. Our building was built in 1908 so it is crazy to see all the layers in between the walls. We found an old newspaper jammed in the wall, we were hoping to find a date on it but it was too old and fragile. If you picked it up it would just crumble in your hands. In the dinning room there is an old hutch built into the wall and we are hoping to find a hidden treasure back there. You never know- people used to hide things in the great depression.
