Kitchen is all Done!!

Before and After Pictures

Happy 30th Birthday!!

It's official....I'm getting older. On Saturday I turned the big 30 and what a wonderful birthday weekend it was. Alex threw me a birthday dinner at a restaurant named Agave with our closest friends. My mom came in for the weekend and my dear friend Gina surprised me and came in town from Portland. I felt so blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful friends and family. Agave is a Mexican restaurant that serves awesome Margaritas, obviously I couldn't participate but they made a mean virgin cocktail for me. We ate dinner and to top it all off we had Sweet Mandy B's cupcakes (my favorite) for my birthday cake.

Breast Cancer Awareness.

Alex and I have had quiet a bit going on this month! We found out that my amazing mom has Stage 2 Breast Cancer. We were lucky to find the tumor early but she will have to undergo chemotherapy and radiation. They say 1 in every 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer her lifetime. That statistic amazes me, you hear that someone always knows someone who has been touched by this disease but I never thought it would be my mom. The timing is kind of ironic that my mom was diagnosed in October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This has allowed us to educate ourselves so much more than I would of ever imagined. This weekend Alex and I are flying down to Dallas to walk in the Dallas Race for the Cure with my mother. It will be amazing to see all the survivors!

Here are some things that Susan G. Komen Foundation recommends-

1. Know your risk.
Talk to your family to learn about your family health
history.
Talk to your doctor about your personal risk of
breast cancer.

2. Get screened.
Ask your doctor which screening tests are right for
you if you are at higher risk.
Have a mammogram every year starting at age 40 if
you are at average risk.
Have a clinical breast exam at least every 3
years starting at 20, and every year starting at 40.

3. Know what is normal for you. See your health care
provider right away if you notice any of these
breast changes
:
Lump, hard knot or thickening
Swelling, warmth, redness or darkening
Change in the size or shape of the breast
Dimpling or puckering of the skin
Itchy, scaly sore or rash on the nipple
Pulling in of your nipple or other parts of the breast
Nipple discharge that starts suddenly
New pain in one spot that doesn’t go away

4. Make healthy lifestyle choices.
Maintain a healthy weight
Add exercise into your routine
Limit alcohol intake
