Jack is One Month Already!

I can't believe it has already been a month since Jack first arrived! Alex and I have noticed as first time parents it is all based on trial and errors. From learning how to feed him, to burping, to giving him a bath. I think we are starting to get it down now, Jack for the last couple of weeks has been sleeping through the night. How excited are we- I think Jack knows that Mommy and Daddy like their sleep! (I hope I didn't just jinx us by publishing that statement) Recently, Jack and I have been getting out of the house a couple of times during the week. Usually we will go and meet some of my girlfriends for lunch or we will drive out to the suburbs to walk the mall to get some excercise or do a little shopping. I think both of us have been experiencing cabin fever so it is great to get out and Jack is such a champ. He usually falls asleep as soon as I put him in the carrier and doesn't wake up til we get home.

The biggest mystery we are facing right now is Jack spitting up all the time, and this isn't just a little spit up this is basically his whole feeding. I've talked to his Dr. about it and he doesn't seem to be to worried because Jack is in the 90th percentile of his weight. Speaking of that at his last check up - which was his one month check up he weighed 11 lbs and 6 oz.(90%) Measured 21 1/2 inches (50%). One thing that I feared going into this appointment was that Jack was getting a shot, I just knew that this was going to be so hard and I wasn't prepared yet to see my baby boy in such agony. Well, my little stud didn't even shed a tear, I myself didn't even realize that they had given him the shot yet cause he didn't even blink. Our next appointment he has to get five shots I wonder how he will do then?

Jack's 2 week check up!

Alex and I took Jack to his two week check up and he is a very healthy boy! He has been nursing and has already gained a pound, he now weighs 9lbs and 2oz. Jack is weighing and measuring in the 75th percentile. Our next visit is in a month and he will be getting a round of shots..I am not looking forward to this visit and I bet Jack isn't either.

On Wednesday Jack's umbilical cord feel off- I wasn't expecting it to come off as soon as it did but I am happy that it did. We can now give Jack his first bath.

Jack is Born!

Jack Henry Briele
born Feburary 4, 2oo9 at 6:23 p.m.
8lbs 2oz
21 1/2 inches

Well Feb.3rd came and went and no Jack, so Alex suggested we go eat at Jack's to get our mind off of him not coming. The next morning I woke up around 6:30 am with what I thought was either cotractions or gas. So I decided to time the "contractions" and they were about 7 minutes apart. I woke Alex up and then they started to get more intese and about 5 minutes apart. I had a doctors appointment at 10 am so I called my doctor to see if I should go in to her office or to the hospital. At this point it was about 9:30 and I knew at this point that this was the real thing, the contractions were now unbearable and less than two minutes apart. Alex packed our bags and off we went to the hospital. When we arrived I was at 4cm dialated so they wheeled me up to labor and delivery...I pleaded and begged for an epidural. I had been nervous about getting an epidural...the needle in my spine frightened me but I didn't even think twice about it by that time. After the epidural was in I thought I can do this, this is easy...needless to say I was feeling good! I started to progress faster than normal for a first time baby. Within two hours I had dialated 3 more cm, so they thought this was going to be a fast and easy delivery. Not so much... The doctors were noticing everytime I would have a cotraction the baby's heart rate would drop from the 120's to 80's. Jack was having a hard time recovering from the contraction. By now I was ready to push so I pushed and pushed with all my might. Jack's heart rate still would drop so the doctors said one more push and if things don't change we are taking this baby out with forceps (he was crowning so it was too late for a c-section) No go..he was caught on my pelvic bone. So they said o.k were taking him out now and wooosh there was about twenty people in the room. The next thing I know there was twisting, turning, tugging and pulling and then our beautiful baby was here. They rushed him to the side to check him out and to get him stimulated. The delivery was pretty hard on my body as you could imagine so it took them about an hour to stitch me up. Jack actually came out with one arm, something the doctors never had seen before. Alex went by our new baby's side to be with him. I loved seeing Jack's daddy watch after him. it was such a precious sight. About 20 minutes later they brought him over to me. He was beautiful...he was pretty beat up but just beautiful to me.

39 weeks update

On Friday, I went to the doctor and I am now at 3.5 cm. She didn't have any guesses on when the baby would come. She said it could be anywhere within the next 7-14 days. My due date is on Tuesday but she wants me to come in Wednesday morning (if I haven't had Jack by then) so they can monitor the baby. She said by the information they receive we could possibly talk about inducing. We're ready to meet our little boy, so stay on alert!!

36 weeks

We are in the home stretch...Yippee!! I've started weekly visits with the doctor and this past Saturday was our first one. Alex and I found out that our little guy is measuring a little bigger than average. I wasn't too suprised because for weeks I have felt like he was 20lbs. My body has defintely felt it as well as my feet they look like Fred Flinstones.

I was very impressed with Alex this weekend! He has done so much to help me get the house ready for the baby. The baby furniture arrived and the crib needed to be put together so Alex got out his tools and away he went. He did a great job, and I love him for all that he has done.
